The latest version of Skype is now the 4.0 - So what is new ? The first thing you will notice is the absolute new skin of Skype 4.0 but if you don´t like that you can switch bat the the "compact modus". Further they promise you much better quality on phone & video calls. I only can say it seams so that it is really true even if the other side sill works with some oder version of Skype. We in India do not use Skype in general. But yes, it has great features when it comes to calling long distance.
Skype is really a famous means to communicate through the internet without spending a cent via its clear video calls.
Definitely much better than MSN and Yahoo.
