3 vs. 2

In the ongoing CPU war, between Intel and AMD, Intel is currently dominating and AMD try to grab some percent the midrange market. So AMD try it with three cores.
These triple-core Phenoms, such as the 8750 being reviewed herein, are affordable and theoretically more powerful than a dual-core CPU.

It's also a way for AMD to make use of quad core CPUs in which all four cores may not pass testing. They can still sell them as triple core CPUs. The actual die is the same as the Phenom quad core CPUs, only with one core disabled.

The question is, while they look great on paper, how do they do in real-life computing and gaming? The Phenom 8750's street price is about the same as the popular Intel Core 2 Duo E8400. You'll find the two CPUs similarly priced around $200 for a retail kit. But only a few games are able to use more then 1 core or multithreating. So if you want performance for your game you can still take the cpu with the best performance per one core.

I used to use AMD but I swapped to Intel and it is much better and doesn't get as hot as the AMD cpu. The main reason why I used AMD was because they were cheaper.

When do you think they will release games that take advantage of the new processor architecture?

I prefer intel than AMD,I have used to Intel since 5 years ago.

I've always had better luck with AMD than Intel. Even if your a big Intel support you should be happy people out there are supporting the competition and keeping prices low.

@ Fred - I´m not a big Intel supporter :) I only write down facts and that what I think. I also use AMD CPU´s and in many cases I still would prefer AMD instead of Intel.
It only depends on what I want to do with that PC or Server.
