ONwebCHECK test AMD Black Edition!
Now I get a AMD Athlon(TM) Black Edition Dual-Core CPU for Testing! :) Now I don´t want to write about some benchmarks but about that what you can do with the Black-Edition CPU and where are the differences between the Black-Edition and a normal Dual AMD CPU.
The most important characteristic of the Black-Edition is that you can choose the multiplicator
for the CPU free! You have no restriction to that. OK if you want to much it will not work! But you can make a very good fine tuning between your FSB and multiplicator on your CPU - so you can get a much higher performance from your CPU without changing the FSB. The problem is if you change the FSB so it takes effect on many things - like your RAM! Normally you have to buy a much more expensive RAM to get sure you can use it for some overclocking!
The AMD Black-Edition CPU is available as a AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ with 2x 2,60GHz and 2x512KB Cache and as a AMD Athlon 64 x2 6400+ with 2x 3,20GHz and 2x 1024KB Cache.
And of course the Black-Edition is a little bit more expensive than a normal AMD X2 5000+ CPU!
But the idea is not bad - I think AMD can get so some extra power user or power gamer to their side. And we have to see which answer Intel will give :)

Intel with 45-Nanometer CPU for Desktop computers
Intel will start from 12. November to deliver out their first 45-Nanometer-CPU for Desktop PCs. The CPU is the Intel-Quad-Core CPU QX9650 and QX6850 - code name "Hapertown". The architecture is closed Intels Xeon of the series E/X5400
Intel 45-Nanometer-Quad-Cores begin in the future against the new AMD CPUs of the K10-Generation: With the server processors Xeon E5400 and Opteron 2300 (Barcelona) compete, with which Desktop computers core 2 Quad (Yorkfield) and still before the end of the year expected the Phenom X4 (Agena). I think power Gamer will be very glad to hear that.
Although Intel had demonstrated Yorkfields with 3,33 GHz clock frequency on the developer forum IDF in April already, the core of 2 extremes QX9650 runs like its 65-nm QX6850 with 3,0 GHz at the FSB1333-Frontsidebus. Both processors have the same nominal Thermal Design power (TDP) of 130 Watts.

Vista and Halo3 bring Microsoft success
Microsoft started an increase with a conversion of 13.76 billion US Dollar in the new year, of 27% in the comparison with the first quarter of the previous year (10.81 billion US Dollar). The profit rose around 23% of 3.48 billion US Dollar or 0.35 US Dollar per share in the prior year quarters on 4.29 billion US Dollar or 0.45 US Dollar per share.
The result is over expectations, Microsoft a profit per share between 0,38 and 0,40 US Dollar with conversions of up to 12.6 billion US Dollar had expected. “The financial year had, commentated an outstanding start with the largest sales growth since 1999” chief of finances Chris Lidell the result. The share quotation of the software giant, that had already reached a yearly highest level in the course of the day, added in the open market trade again scarcely over 8 per cent.
Substantial turnover drivers were for data of the enterprise the “robust” demand for the operating system Windows Vista, the Office software and the video game “halo 3” only published shortly before quarter end. In the first quarter Microsoft with Windows altogether 4.14 billion US Dollar, compared to 3.32 billion in the comparison period of the previous year a growth converted of 25%. The operational result grew of 2,66 to 3.37 billion US Dollar. An increasing PC market and a strong acceptance of Vista contributed likewise to the result like the successful fight of illegal copies.
Wow, so you can see even with a not so good product but a perfect marketing you can make a lot of money!

The Leopard is released!
From this week, you can buy, Apple next operating system version Mac OS X 10.5 alias Leopard. With some delay: Apple had originally announced the next evolution stage of the OS X for spring 2007, which shifted sales start then however on Octobers. The manufacturer had concentrated his capacities completely on the punctual distribution of the Hype mobile phone iPhone.
Numerous Apple dealers, to whom in the meantime also some electronics Discounter belong, celebrate the sales start with a “night of the leopard”. Interested users can try locally the new functions out. Who acquired a Mac with the previous version (“tiger) still in October, a Upgrade can receive for a small fee! Condition for system is a Mac with Intel processor, PowerPC G5 or G4 (867 MHz or faster) and at least 512 MByte RAM. At the same time also the sale of the server version of the system starts Unix are based.
More than 300 innovations are to be OS X in the update for Mac, largest according to Apple. “Leopard is the sixth large version of Mac OS X and the best Upgrade, which we brought out, praise so far” Apple boss Steve Jobs the new operating system. Thus for example the Finder was revised. He already took over one with Cover flow of iTunes well-known representation method. Thus one leafs as through a poster stand through reduced preview pictures of its files. A separate preview permits very fast looking at of files, about pictures, PDFs or texts, up to the frame representation.

NEC with new supercomputer SX-9
NEC pushes with new supercomputer SX-9 to the world leaders. The manufacturer did not only make changes at the name: Instead of SX-8X the system is called SX-9 now. It supplies an agreed maximum performance of 839 Teraflop/s (trillion floating decimal point computations per second) and only one SX-9 is able to replace 3 of its predecessor models!
Substantial differences to the previously current SX-8R lie not only in the arithmetic performance of the new vector processor core of 102,4 Gigaflop/s (peak), but particularly in the high throughput of the memory system from twice 128 GByte/s. Thus NEC could treble in relation to achievement the SX-8 altogether nearly.
A computing knot consists of up to 16 processors. The memory throughput during the writing is with 4 Terabyte/s, the maximum of the MEMORY lies now with 1 Terabyte (instead of 256 GByte). The performance increase results particularly from the doubling of the vector pipelines of the vector processor produced now in the 65-nm-Prozess on eight instead of so far four. In addition the developers with the higher line density could raise the clock of 2,2 to 3,2 GHz.
NEC points out expressly that it acts during the arithmetic performance around the theoretical peak value and not around the Linpack value for the placement in the list of the fastest supercomputers of the world, the Top500. There NEC had reserved to before June 2002 by June 2004 the seat 1 and in the last year with the Earth simulator of place 3 in November 2004 at place 20 in June 2007 had dropped back.
Starting from 20,000 euros per month NEC offers such a system to the rent. So if you need some extra compute power...... :)

! GeForce 8 cracks passwords !
That graphic processors (GPU) have a much higher theoretical arithmetic performance than current CPUs, is not new. Practically now Elcomsoft points to version 2.0 its Distributed password Recovery (DPR), how GeForce-8-card uses, in order to crack Windows NTLM passwords up to 25 times faster than before. An eight-digit Windows password is to be able to be in such a way computed instead of in two months in three to five days. Several computers can additional be connected to a cluster, in order to increase the throughput still further. The software developed by Elcomsoft is to be announced to the patent.
In particular for highly parallel task modern diagram maps are suitable like of NVidia with 128 Stream processors outstanding. However the GPU controls only floating point computations with simple accuracy, why she is not suitable for all applications, for instance simulation of climatic models.

AMD still with loss
The US-American processor manufacturer AMD converted in the third quarter 1.632 billion US Dollar, is that 23 per cent more than in the third quarter 2006. The enterprise remains as in the three quarter before in the loss situation. In it loads are contained by the integration in July 2006 of the taken over diagram chip manufacturer ATI at height of 120 million US Dollar. One year ago AMD wrote 136 million US Dollar in black numbers. The range Computing Solutions with processors and chip corroding gained 45 million less conversion than with 1.283 billion US Dollar one year ago. However the conversion with mobile processors grew in relation to the third quarter 2006 around 68%.
The conversion exceeded expectations of the analysts, however there are different opinions of the observers over it whether the loss was more highly than prognosticated. At the New Yorker stock exchange the AMD share, which noted close of the exchange with 14,57 to the US Dollar 3.26 per cent more highly than the day before, tightened open market over well 0.5 per cent.

Big Bill is watching you
Windows installs again updates without ask the user!
Since the youngest Microsoft Patchday Windows user report again problems with Windows update. Although they configured their system for the manual installation of updates, Windows had brought program enhancements in automatically and the computer booted again. After Microsoft already updated Windows computers in September secretly, Windows update was fast again constituted as guilty. On past Friday Nate Clinton, Windows update Program manager reacted at Microsoft, to the reproaches. The update team analyzed sent in log files. The attitudes for automatic updates (OUTER ONES) were made neither of the Outer-Client nor by the updates installed by him, so Clinton. It asked all those, which are concerned of the problem, to turn to the Security support. So how you can be sure about your data? And now everybody can see that Microsoft is able to make whatever they want with your computer and your data on it if you have MS Windows running on it.

Gold vs. Money
Do you know why gold is so expensive? Why many people trust more in gold than in a painted peace of paper? You will never know how much is your money worth in the future, you only know it how much you can get for it in a certain moment. At the moment you see the US $ loss some of it worth in the world market. You see the price on oil grows and also gold is much more expensive than 5 years ago. And I promise you it will continue. So maybe you have to think about it to make some deposit in gold or silver for the future.

New liquid cooling system
Sun patents new liquid cooling system. Sun Microsystems received the patent for a new liquid cooling system, which gets along without moved mechanical parts. The closed system consists of a periodic, micro-magnetic field. This causes the compression of blisters integrated into the coolant, which arrive thereby in rotation and cause a pump effect. Thus the liquid flows by the system and transports the heat of the hot chip surface to the cooling fins.
The advantages of the new cooling system are to consist on the one hand of the fact that it possesses no mechanically mobile parts and thus almost wear and noise-free works. On the other hand it is to use also less energy than conventional systems. Finally it is to be able to be adjusted very well and thus simply into a software controlled heat management to be integrated be able, how it is used with servers and large computers. So companies using lot of computers can save a lot of energy and money.

Happy Birthday Sputnik

Do you remember? Now it is 50 years ago! The starting signal for the race in the universe was a beep. As the Soviet Union on 4. October 1957 - with the Sputnik the first artificial satellite into an earth orbit shot, possessed this nothing else as a robust radio station. “First! ”, the beep signaled to the Americans. As reaction on the Sputnik the USA altogether 25.4 billion a dollar expensive research program to adjust the "disgrace of the Sputnik" (John F. Kennedy) witch was done by the moon-landing of Neil Armstrong to 21. July 1969.

The next WLAN generation - checked by ONwebCHECK
Draft N WLAN should be a ONE-CHIP-Solution. The standard for the next-faster WLAN generation (IEEE 802.11n) is not yet discharged, but already stable enough for some company's to develop the first samples. For example Cisco arranges to offer a Draft N ACCESS POINT.
Now Broadcom presented a 802.11n- able WLAN component named BCM4322/4323. It contains the function groups medium ACCESS CONTROLLER (MAC), base band processor and two Transceiver (2T2R) for 2,4 GHz or 5 GHz on a chip. According to short data sheet the component works after the 802.11n-draft 2,0 and is compatible with Draft 1,0 as well as 802.11a, b and G. It works in PCIe and PCI systems; the variant BCM94323 works with a USB-2.0-Interface.
