OnwebCHECK: Importance of Data backup

Today a customer visit me in my shop and ask me if I still have his old hard disk, because he delete one folder on his new computer with many data on it. He said `My wife will kill me, if I delete all her data.´ OK this time it was not a big deal, I still had his old hard disk drive (HDD) but one week later and he would be in big trouble. So I made him a new data backup and get some extra cash. But that is not a individual case! Nearly every week I try to rescue some data and ask me why they has no backup? Two month ago a customer wanted get some date from his old hard disk but it was to late. A head crash on the hard disk made it impossible. OK there are some companies which are specialized on that cases and it is really possible for them to rescue the data but it is very expensive.
Every time I hear the sentence ´But I wanted to make my backup tomorrow.´ A fatal error. Nowadays we have so many possibilities and different medias to make a backup of our data. People ask me how often they have to make a backup? It is quite simple. That only depend on that how important the data is. Sometimes I remember me how I made my first backup – I needed about 30 floppy disk a 1,44MB with data compression. Today we can choose from so many possibilities and different strategies and the question on which kind of media you want to store your data? I found a very good site about that topic. So If you want to know more about it you should visit `The History of Backup´. And even if you think you know how to make a backup it is worth to read it and maybe you find some good tips or can close a gab in the history of backup.

Thanks for the reminder! My PC is 4 years old and slowing down so much I know it's going to die on me one fine day. I'm relying on two portable hard drives and my laptop to keep my data.
